European progressives got what they wanted in 0bama, and gave him the Nobel Peace Prize for it. What they wanted was a more internationalist, collectivist, broadly left-leaning American leadership and an America less aggressive about protecting its interests over those of the Greater Good. There are a couple problems with that: (1) they have discovered to their horror that Putin isn't a progressive, and (2) a world with U.S. power in decline isn't actually more peaceful but less. A dose of reality has splashed against the fevered brow of left-wing dogma and the proggies don't appear to like it very much.
0bama isn't the answer. His entire political experience has coalesced around that sort of dogma. He isn't suddenly going to become George Washington, or even George Bush. He was, and remains exactly what the Left in Europe thought that it wanted, cheered for enthusiastically, and attempted to elevate to messianic status through press and popular culture as sycophantic and disgusting as anything Louis the Sun King ever enjoyed. Strap on your packs and pick up your rifles, boys - you wanted it this way.
