Prime Minister Tony Abbott has announced objects possibly related to the search for the missing Malaysian Airlines plane have been found in the southern Indian Ocean.
Must factor the fuel burn used heading north before turning around

I know the feeling.
Since its 2:00am that’s give time for some sleep. Thanks for the information
Night all.
Keep those prayers coming. 2 or more Amen to each of them
The search planes can only stay on station for two hours, due to the distance, so they are streaming plane’s to the site to ensure continuous coverage. There is an ABC reporter on one of the planes. It should be there in a couple of hours.
The street scenes were actually filmed in the nearby town of Forbes, not Parkes. Been there many times.
JUST IN: @WrightUps from above Indian Ocean says US P-8 crew “getting radar hits of significant size;” trying to get visuals on hits.
Second report of radar hits.
Just remembered the 777 has a lot of Composite construction so it could be floating debris.
I’m old school thinking aluminum construction.
That’s the On Air code for “bring me milk and Oreo cookies”
It doesn’t take a genius to read a telepromter as the last 6 yrs have proven.
All the references I've seen say it was a 777-200ER. (ER = Extended Range.)
Maximum range 8892 statute miles with a full fuel load.
Supposedly, it was fueled only for its scheduled flight to Beijing (2693 miles).
However, it may have departed KUL with extra fuel, either because Captain Z arranged it somehow, or because Malaysian Airlines doesn't like Beijing's fuel price and sought to minimize the tab for the return trip.
The composite parts will sink unless air is trapped inside. They will not normally float.
The C-130 is specially designed to carry and drop the marker bouys.
The 777 is a fly by wire design. Essentially, a robot. Software mediates all control signals to the control surfaces, ie., servos do all the work. Even thrust is managed by computer.
A rolling system collapse would be some event that cause most circuits to eventually end up disabled.
Could also been them running a checklist for a fire, and they were overcome before they completed reset of breakers for various systems.
These are general ideas, not specific. But the gist being, I do not believe any disablement was a part of a nefarious plot. It was disaster recovery or disaster progressing.
Given the ping times, and the skill of the pilot, the pilot might have actually settled the plane on the water, and then it eventually sunk.
There is still Honeycomb sandwiched between the outer CF layers, right?
How air tight is the fuselage ?
Malaysia apparently sending ships and notifying relatives...
That’s a sign that they know it is the actual debris...
Source?
typically, yes... the 777-200 uses composites in the empennage (tail), fairings and cabin floor... I’d assume honeycomb panels are used at least in the empennage.
