March 18, 2014, 04:13 pm Biden gaffes again
By Rebecca Shabad
Vice President Biden misspoke on Tuesday, claiming he had led the fight for Poland to join NATO when he served as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Biden, whose tendancy toward gaffes is well known, served as chairman from 2001 to 2003; Poland joined NATO in 1999.
Fifteen years ago, I was honored, as the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, to lead the fight for Polands admission into NATO, Biden said in Warsaw, Poland, on Tuesday during a visit to reassure allies as Russia moved to annex Crimea.
Bloomberg News first reported the gaffe.
Former Sen. Jesse Helms (R-N.C.) had been chairman of the committee at the time Poland campaigned to join NATO.
Helms initiated the floor debate over whether Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary should join NATO, Bloomberg noted.
Biden did lead Democrats, who were in the minority, in approving the treaty resolution that accepted the countries into the organization.
Although he was skeptical about enlarging NATO in the early 1990s, Biden changed his mind by 1997.
That year, he traveled to Eastern European countries, including Poland, and compiled a congressional report about the trip in an effort to promote NATO enlargement.
Biden was co-chairman of the Senate NATO observer group at the time.
A year later, the Senate went on to approve the expansion of NATO to include Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic in a 80 to 19 vote.
Was there not another famous Dem making similar claims about that thingy called the "internet"?
Anyone?
Bueller?
Wow...
I’m SURE they’ll be covering this on tonight’s NBC Evening News, and the Daily Show, right?
Can you just IMAGINE the weeks of ridicule from the Media, and Late-Night Comics we’d all be treated to had a REPUBLICAN said something like this?
“Vice President Biden misspoke on Tuesday”
If he does it all the time, can it still be called “misspeaking”? Better to say “Vice President Biden spoke on Tuesday”; the rest is implied.
He’s a very foolish man.
He should retire.
I’m sure Biden will make a quick cover for his faux pas by telling some really great Polack jokes.
You CAN hold your breath til he gaffes. It isn’t even difficult.
I doubt it. It is too convoluted to even joke about.
My favorite Biden joke (personally experienced):
I was visiting DC in April 2012 walking along the west side of the WH complex.
Suddenly security shuts down all traffic, pedestrian and vehicle.
After 10 mins or so, Biden comes out of the driveway in an armored Suburban with a couple of escort cars, waving to the masses thru the tinted window.
A guy in a thousand dollar suit turns to me and says “if Joe didn’t have a chauffeur, he probably couldn’t find his way home for lunch.”
Misspoke.
That’s it. no WAY is was a LIE.
Weekend at Bidens
I remember his mispronunciation of nuclear as "nucular" and soon after I heard a top Democrat mispronounce it the same way.
Liberals are all pretty much pathological liars. When you really don’t answer to a higher power at this point what difference does it make?
Even I who is on 10lpm of 02 could hold my breath between Biden gaffe’s.
Rofl! A Nd yes, you could! Unless he was sleeping! :)
Mistaking himself for Jesse Helms, that is going to annoy the media.
It’s called a lie! It is not a gaffe when you tell an out and out bald faced lie. John Kerry’s tales in Vietnam also are not gaffes but lies. That is all Democrats can do is lie, lie, lie.
A gaffe is when you unintentionally say what you really think.
very true. It does not happen very often for a Democrat to actually commit a gaffe. It it does happen it is covered up very quickly.
