"The threat to close the Bosphorus to Russia comes from a report by Hvylya, citing a Turkish diplomatic source. According to the source, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan yesterday spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone and warned of the consequences for conflict with Ukraine. The Hvylya source was also reported on by UNIAN."
Somehow or other between 1600 and 1900, Europeans needed to take 20 years off from their internecine fighting and drive the turks back into central Asia where they belong.
The Bosporus is the sovereign territory of Turkey. Warships can’t pass without advance permission. Remember, it took the Chinese 16 months to get permission from Turkey to tow the Varyag though the straits.

“Putin has troops in Kherson and seems to be thinking about taking everything from Crimea to Moldova.”
Yes, and Moldova.
Kaliningrad is another hotspot with Russian military forces there engaged in unusual movements which have the Lithuanian and Latvian governments concerned enough to request additional assistance from NATO and the United States.
The best chance was after WW1, but they blew it.
Any way to contribute to the effort??
Hormuz is not Iran’s sovereign territory. Istanbul sits on both sides of the Bosporus. At least Turkey has some nads as compared to our community organizer-in-chief.
No doubt Obama told the Turkish leader that the US has his back on this. Good luck with that.
I read once that Obama and Erdogan have a “special relationship”. That Obama has spoken with him on the phone far more times than any other world leader.
No doubt Obama’s superior intelligence and grasp of world affairs tells him Turkey is the key to solving the problems of Eastern Europe and the Middle East, straddling the two cultures as it does. Or so he thinks.
The results speak for themselves.
Not an issue. Europe can buy oil elsewhere. It’s natural gas that’s a problem. Unfortunately Russia would be taking a head shot if it deliberately decided to stop exporting gas and oil. That’s 50% of their federal income.
Very true, and they let the muzzys run wild at home.
No, they don`t have to, we did. BTW, how`d that turn out?
May the Russians succeed in that endeavor.
So Ukraine is worth WWIII?
Oh, but I assumed someone in the insane clown posse running DC has a strategic thought in their heads.
Because they have long standing ties to the Crimean Tartars and are also directly threatened by Russia’s aggressiveness in the Black Sea and Caucasus.
Yes, as always, Obama stands with the Muslims.
Once again, going to war for Muzzies.
So, should we back the Turks because they are not Russians, or back the Russians because they are not Turks?
I back the non-muslim country.
