This Is The Most Plausible Theory For The Plane's Disappearance We've Heard Yet...

Henry Blodget

Over the past 10 days, investigators and observers have come up with ever-more elaborate theories for what might have happened to Malaysia Airways Flight 370.

What was originally assumed to have been a tragic mid-air explosion or mechanical problem soon bloomed into a criminal investigation of a meticulously planned hijacking, commandeering, or otherwise stealing of a fully loaded commercial 777 in mid-air.

The perpetrator(s) knew the plane so well, one of the latest theories goes, that they climbed through a trap door outside the cockpit to reach circuit breakers necessary to shut down one of the communication's systems. They shut down the transponder. They made the plane disappear and fooled the world into thinking it had crashed. They flew one of two "arcs" for 7 hours — a "southern route" over the Indian Ocean on which, eventually, they crashed the plane in the ocean in a complicated suicide, and a "northern route" in which, perhaps, they slipped past land-based radar, flew to a destination in central Asia, and landed, perhaps preparing to use the plane again soon for a terrorist attack or other mission. This latter plan was executed so flawlessly, one observer theorized, that Flight 370 slipped in behind another commercial airliner for much of the route so as not to be noticed on radar.

The pilots' houses have been searched. Terrorist connections have been probed. Passenger backgrounds and possible motives have been scrutinized. And still, 10 days after the plane disappeared, we know nothing.

Perhaps that's because we're overthinking it.

A few days ago, a former pilot named Chris Goodfellow articulated an entirely different theory on Google+.

This theory fits the facts.

And it's the most plausible yet:

At the link they explain that the analysis takes the originating airport being ruled out into account. 8000 foot ridges are crossed just after take-off and climb to altitude when leaving the main airport. The alternate had an approach without that complication.

Its a good theory and for the sake of the future I hope it turns out correct. Its a straw, but I.m hanging on.

Maybe he’s instructed someone to release a rant video he’d made earlier in the coming days or weeks.

Perhaps when that plane reappears en route to Israel?

I am still going with my theory, or third theory.

US satellite killer test. Test was successful and word was quietly sent through back channels to China telling them not to do a damn thing while we were dealing with Russia.

Technical aspects? Laser fried communications and caused cockpit fire. Pilots see a flash of light, things stRt to burn. They become disoriented and in the ensuing panic..... Take it from there.

Nice.

I’ll give you a ten for originality. Zero for plausibility. It would require Obama to have grown a pair. If that had happened, Carney would have told us.

“ghost phone calls’

I thought the cell phones belonging to the passengers were ‘receiving’ phone calls not ‘making’ phone calls.

The problem with the theory is that there was never a distress call.

Could the sudden rise in altitude be an attempt to starve the fire from oxygen?

Oh, the 45K ft information came from the Malaysian government? OK, then I can rest assured it’s false. They have done nothing but lie since this whole thing started.

I favor the Pakistan theory, actually.

Since I am also an instructor, I’ve trained hundreds of pilots in simulator scenarios with flight deck fires.

Most non pilots are confused as to the role of ATC. In the US,mother role is traffic separation. They keep aircraft from hitting each other, as well as terrain. International, only traffic separation. ATC cannot help you fight a fire etc. Since they only provide traffic separation, telling them you are in an emergency only becomes important when you are worried about collision etched.

It may comes a shock to the average passenger, but airline pilots really do have every passenger's life in their hands. Our skill and training are the only thing keeping you safe in situations like this. A May Day call to ATC won't help.

Is the sudden change to a higher altitude ever advised to starve a fire of oxygen? If so when?

I’m not sold on any theory, but an avionics smoke incident is VERY plausible.

So, no experience with actual cockpit fires? Do you have knowledge of how pilots actually react to smoke? Not how you train them, but what they actually do?

I ask only because I find it hard to understand why no mention of it seems to have been made to ground control. It just seems common sense that if I have a situation that makes me want to get on the ground as soon as possible, then I would want someone helping me with my options, while I worked the problem.

“I’ll give you a ten for originality. Zero for plausibility. It would require Obama to have grown a pair. If that had happened, Carney would have told us.”

Doesn’t need for Obama to grow a pair. Only needs the right people to execute it and give the president deniability. Explains the firing of all the brass.

That is ridiculous on its face. Flying a plane IS multitasking.

Are you a pilot? Like many arm chair accident investigators these days, unless you do this stuff for a living, you really have no idea.

Closest airport is an FMS selection. Oceanic ATC is not in the business of vectors. In most cases they merely log times.

Not a pilot. OK, are you saying that multitasking is not required to fly a plane? Are you saying that smoke in the cockpit is not routinely reported to ATC? Are you saying that a two second voice transmission, informing of a potential emergency situation, would not be done because the crew is too busy for a two second report?

I will simply repeat that seems absurd on its face.
