None of it seems to take into account the fact that the plane climbed first to 47,000, then rapidly descended. Or the cell phones, that, over land, would have been at some point operable.

well, it started out to be 45,000.

What was the original source of that information?

What radar facility in that area had the capability of reading altitude with the transponder turned off?

Cell phones are not usable at high altitudes because they hit so many cell towers that they drive the system nuts.

Buddy of mine bought a cell phone jammer off the net for next to nothing a few years ago. He liked turning it on in crowded places under his coat to watch everyone stop and stare at their phone at the same time, or when people were talking too loud.

I this was a planned event I can’t believe someone didn’t think to bring one small enough to cover an area the size of an aircraft these days. This is a small one for 170 bucks.

If the passengers were passed out/dead the cell phones would still yield good data ,, all you need is one to have a pending outbound text message,, it’ll go out the minute you’re in tower range.
