The magnitude 4.4 earthquake that struck near Westwood is the most significant shake in Southern California since a 5.5 earthquake hit Chino Hills in 2008, a U.S. Geological Survey seismologist told reporters at a news conference Monday morning.
Robert Graves said there have been at least six aftershocks since the 6:25 a.m. earthquake. The largest so far has been a magnitude 2.7 earthquake that struck five miles northwest of Westwood.

A jolt but it lasted around 20 seconds(Actually it felt like it would never end) but it wasn’t the shaking that scared me, it was the noise that it made, reminded me so much of Northridge
Never in the LA/SF region, at least in historical times.
Just curious:
Did you notice the quake six hours previously?
When was the last time there was actually a fore shock to a large earthquake?
I never knew earthquakes made a noise. What kind of a noise?
That WOULD be scary! Hope there is not going to be more.
Statically, 1 of 20 quakes are foreshocks to a larger event.

“Whoa. Thats weird. A few hours before this I had another premonition of the big one in CA... I get them every once in a while, probably due to watching one too many disaster flicks at the drive-in.”

It was like a rumbling sound, maybe like a freight train(Even though Ive never heard a freight train before LOL) good thing the flat screen TV that hasn’t been mounted on the wall stayed put..our dogs, not a peep out of them, didn’t give us any warning. My sisters upstairs neighbor has a Boxer, he got so scared that he ran downstairs to the backyard and puked poor baby..guess some dogs just can’t take it
That is what my daughter said... THE NOISE WAS LOUD.
Our neighbor heard the noise and was taken by it and missed the quake just focusing on that loud noise! LOL
I would imagine with billions of tons of rock grinding around underground that it would make a HUGE noise.
LOL I dont think so..meanwhile my dogs hate Obama, whenever they hear his voice they start growling and barking, coincidence I think NOT
But it doesn't and has a fraction of CA growing season.
Our next door neighbor turned on all the lights after it hit, could have been they heard me screaming LOL I think because it was still dark and it woke me up normal reaction was to just scream, if it hit now i dont think I would make a fuss about it
Thought that was in Missouri ,...Tenn!

they certainly did go quite a way out on the “the Big One “ limb here.
A somewhat slow news day otherwise may have provided the impetus for them to hype this story.
That is a dangerous area up there.
