well since 90%+ of the population of Crimea wants nothing to do with the rioters that took over Kiev... I imagine the only ones holding guns behind every blade of grass will be those in Crimea fighting for their freedom from the terrorists in Kiev.

That 90%+ number by itself tells you the vote was bogus. The ballot had two choices, none of which was remaining in Ukraine. If you doubt the bogus vote look up the history of the Tatars and their percentage, 15%, of the population. Don’t forget to look up the percentage of ethnic Ukrainians who live in the Crimea. In a truly honest election my guess is it would have been 50/50. Of course in communist countries the elections usually are a sure thing. North Korea is an example. Dear Leader got 100% of the vote. I imagine every voter showed up for that election too.

Russia has been conducting an extensive propaganda effort leading up to the elctions strarting when the demonstrations got out of hand in their view. Part of that is aimed at convincing us we’re looking at another Iraq or Afghanistan. Ukraine’s could turn out to be another Afghanistan for the Russians.

I say we send the Ukrainians all the weapons left over from Ghadaffi and wish them luck. If our SEALS can interdict an oil tanker at the request of the Libyan government, I think we need a quid pro quo. Turn Ukraine into another Russian Afghanistan, Proxy wars work. We’ve BTDT. We don’t need to put boots on the ground to bleed the Russians.

Problem is: that 90% know choosing sovereign independence will be soon followed by voluntary annexation into a larger state.

I do assume any Texas Freeper understands this.

90 percent? The Ukrainian and Tatar population of Crimea is about 30 percent, and that doesn't count others who aren't communists or fascists of some kind who want back in with Russia. The 'Russian unity" party, that is now running things, was a fringe party with only 3 elected members until one of their members was made Prime Minister by a group of men carrying grenade launchers who escorted him into the Crimean Rada.

The vote itself was a farce, complete with photos of small children filling out votes, and ballots already filled out with a "yes" for Russia.

By the way, I've noticed your posts pimping for Putin before. This is the low end of propaganda. Are you Russian?
