Pro-Russian demonstrators in eastern Ukraine smashed their way into public buildings and burned Ukrainian-language books on Sunday in further protests following two deadly clashes in the region last week.
Protests, some several thousand strong, spread to Russian-speaking southern districts as Ukraine's Crimean peninsula, under the control of the Russian military for two weeks, voted in a referendum on joining Russia.

In Kharkiv, Reuters Television footage showed pro-Russian activists scaling an iron gate, smashing a van and breaking into the offices of a Ukrainian cultural center. Two policemen stood nearby, examining the van.
The footage then showed young men seizing Ukrainian-language books, including a volume devoted to the 1932-1933 man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine, which killed from 7-10 million people.
"Do you see what they print here?" one activist said to another.
The activists then took the books into the street and set them alight in small bonfires...

I am surprised that anyone woould want to return to rule by a power that killed millions of my countrymen.
He is a Russian Nationalist who wants Russia to be a world power. In and of itself, I have no qualms with that. A powerful Russia can be a stabilizing influence in the world, especially in the Middle East.
I don’t think Putin is stupid enough to directly threaten NATO states.
Indeed. But we will play. Because no one thinks.
“lets play global thermonuclear war” I loved that movie.
That is the most important point in this IMO. Most of the world has repeatedly proven it cannot govern itself. 47 plus percent of America has done likewise. And global chaos always results.
History is filled with examples of power abhorring a vacuum. Dosent make it ‘fair’ or ‘just’. Just ‘true’.
Ally Sheedy was a cutie back then.
Russia is our enemy.
I think Islam is our enemy, and we need to unite with Russia to fight it.
Yes. Youth is a wonderful thing.
I think that Islam and Russia are our enemies.
You have to admit that the O regime trying to reignite the Cold War has taken the eye off the Islam ball
The enemy is within the gates.
Then nuke them. Why wait? Isn’t that what you do to enemies? Kill them off?
Otherwise it’s just reciting hollow propaganda. They are not our friend. That’s for sure. But they do not directly threaten America. I’ll look to the founders for advice on ‘Foreign entanglements’.
Show me where I suggested nuking Russia. Otherwise, I believe that you are either mistaking me for someone else, or befuddled.
I think you are right.
I think that islam and Russia and Soros and the EU and homosexual moral nihilists are all our enemies.
We have many enemies.
You didn’t and I didn’t suggest you did.
My point is that everyone is running around screaming “Cold War!” and “Russia is the Enemy”. Well, that presents a choice. We go on war footing and get rid of the problem...or stop making mountains out of molehills.
It is a fact that the majority of Crimeians WANT reunification because they trust the EU less than Russia. That does not make Russia an enemy. It’s a fact that Obama had our state dept over there sticking their brilliant foreign policy in places it ought not be.
If Russia has again become in fact an enemy, hypothetically, why would that be? You ready to send your kids to nuclear death? I’m not. When Russia presents a clear danger to us, I will be. We ain’t close to there unless WE push it.
What I’m saying is people need to put some actual thought into this before spouting 50 year old memes.
Russia is not my enemy...The fact they want to be a player on the world stage should not in and of itself make them an enemy...Now if they start threatening NATO countries, then we’ll talk.
I can agree with that.
Good. Give them back to Poland, or better, Austria.
