How soon can we expect to see brain implants for perfect memory, enhanced vision, hypernormal focus or an expert golf swing?
~snip~
Science fiction? Perhaps not for very much longer. Brain implants today are where laser eye surgery was several decades ago. They are not risk-free and make sense only for a narrowly defined set of patientsbut they are a sign of things to come...

This stuff was on Futurescape with James Woods this morning.
How about an implant that prevents someone from continually voting a Kenyan Marxist into office?
I can use it, too!
I think my memory button has been compromised ..
When you get to brain transplants we have many in DC to the front of the line
ironically brain implants will be silicone also
I think it was Norm Van Brocklin who was suffering from some brain problem and said in a press conference that he hoped to get a transplant from a sports writer, as he wanted one that had not been used.
LOL!
Will a silicone brina implant make my head look bigger?
I also need a spelling implant.
Millions of people with diabetes end up with retinal damage / visual impairment. That alone will lead to far more people with artificial retinas for vision; and you’ll see it become as routine as knee implants because vision is important for independent living.
Look for it to be explicitly denied under ObamaCare.
What’s really going to be interesting - depending if liberals fail and mankind survives - is without question in the future they are going to be able to grow patients new organs. If someone needs a new heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, they will be able to take that patients stem cells and program those cells to form a new organ and there will be absolutely no rejection. Is that scary or what? People could end up living twice as long as they do now, 140 - 200 years. They would probably be blind, deaf and brainless ha ha but they would be alive. And if they solve neural problems, for example the ability to create new nerves, repair and/or create nerve connections, program new neural pathways which will happen IF mankind can exist long enough, people could end up immortal which could end up being hell on earth. Imagine living in a world where Nancy Pelosi would live forever.

That’s funny.
When my spouse and I had our will done, the attorney ask about donating organs upon our demise. I told him I would donate my brain for transplant but nothing more. I then ask him to stipulate in my will the type of person and the bodily characteristics of whon it went to... Must be caucasian, male, tall, handsome, well-hung etc. I figured it could be a win-win. If somebody is going to get a great brain, I should at least get a great body.
He refused to do it...
Imagine that it is 2024 and you have just had your 22nd and final brain implant leaving you with a 100% synthetic brain. You now fully understand both Special and General Relativity as well as Bell's Theorem and you have started making major contributions to Tabast Theory (Tachyon Based String Theory or TBST).
Question: Are You YOU?
Question: If so, do you claim you are conscious?
AAAYEEEAAA! Term limits MUST be enacted!
Given the state of technology this would be a joke.

Once upon a time, I would have been first in line for a direct brain to interwebz connection.
Now, no [rude word] way.
Think -- ad banners in your field of vision, and downhill from there.
Interesting concept, what about those of us who suffer brain injury/ies...Could this be used to bring us back to “normal”?
But oh the dreams you’d get.
