I believe I read that the ELT is made to withstand depths of 600 meters.

We’ll have to wait & see.

It takes more than three seconds to go from the surface of the water to 2,000 feet deep.
The ELT starts pinging as soon as it feels a sudden jar of a certain G-force or if it gets wet.
We would have a satellite location if it happened, even over the Indian Ocean.
