Sarah Palin on Wednesday endorsed former Oklahoma House speaker T.W. Shannon (R) for his state's open U.S. Senate seat.
Shannon is running against Rep. James Lankford and a number of other candidates in the Republican primary to replace Sen. Tom Coburn (R). The 36-year old has gotten some early buzz as the first African American to serve as House speaker in Oklahoma, but he remains an underdog, according to the most recent polls.
"T.W.s opponent has the backing of Beltway insiders, but T.W. has the passion and experience We the People need in Washington," Palin wrote on her Facebook page.
Conservative groups including the Club for Growth aren't big fans of Lankford, but Shannon so far hasn't drawn big-name tea party support.
Palin, whose endorsement was once about the most important thing a tea party candidate could get in a GOP primary, said earlier Thursday that she plans to unveil more endorsements in the coming months.
Previously, she endorsed Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott (R) for governor and tea party activist Katrina Pierson in her primary with Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Tex.). Pierson lost badly; Abbott faced only nominal primary opposition.
Update 4:16: Shannon says in a statement that he's proud to have Palin's endorsement.
It is hard to put in to words how honored I am to have the confidence and support of a leader like Sarah Palin, he said. She is one of the few leaders in this country who is truly committed to the conservative, constitutional principles that will return our country to greatness."

Just which Senator is being replaced? I thought Senator Inhofe was coming
up for election this term? Senator Coburn is scheduled in 2016 to take office 2017.

Coburn is retiring early. Inhofe is also up for reelection. Similar to SC this year.
Thanks. I didn’t see the early retirement thing. So they’ll get to vote on two senators this
time with Coburn’s replacement being for a two year stint to be filled for a full term in 2016.

Right.
That’s our Sarah!
How will Brogdon help Lankford get 50%?
Lankford supports amnesty:
“I’m a Christian, and restitution and reconciliation’s a big deal.”
Inhofe and Coburn have been good on amnesty.
If Lankford wins, the then 2 term congressman Bridenstine should primary him in 2016.
Does lankford have to get to 50 percent?
Do Steve Largent and/or J.C. Watt have any political clout in OK? Do you think it would help if one or both of them endorsed Shannon?
We LOVE Steve Largent (former Seahawks supestar) up here in the Pacific NW. I always enjoyed listening to JC, too.
Best,
SC
Coburn is resigning two years early because he has cancer.
This is absurd. T.W. Shannon is a career politician and you all know it.
I got a call from a push poll a few weeks back asking me questions about James Lankford? “Would you be more or less likely to vote for James Lankford if you knew he did this?” By the end of the poll, they were basically asking me if I would be more or less likely to vote for James Lankford if I knew that he habitually sneaks into maternity wards at hospitals and bites off baby heads. Shannon isn't running an honest campaign. I asked the pollster who she worked for and she wouldn't tell me, but it was as plain as the questions she was asking.
Furthermore, Shannon is skipping candidate forums. Do any of you know why he doesn't want to put his beliefs out in the open for anyone to see? I can't say that I know for sure, but I sure wonder.
I don't know if I'm voting for Lankford in the primaries, but I'm definitely not voting for Shannon, I can tell you that.
