Mike Huckabee had asked me to send him my picture. Hed be sans entourage for our meeting at a Starbucks near Fox Newss midtown Manhattan headquarters, and he wanted to be able to pick me out of the crowd. Sure enough, at the appointed hour, hes waving at me through the glass walls before he even makes it through the entrance. The barista line is long; since Huckabee hasnt brought anyone to stand in it for him, coffee is forgone.
Well do our work, Huckabee says with a shrug. Later, after he realizes he has been droning on, he implores, Stop me at any point and tell me, Youre chasing too many rabbits out in the field here. Six years as a right-wing media host have not corroded the folksy charisma and self-deprecating wit that were hallmarks of his political persona. The man can charm.
There are Republican kingmakers prepared to bank on just that. When Huckabee ran for president in 2008, the former Arkansas governor and Southern Baptist preacher beat expectations by winning the Iowa caucuses and finishing second in the overall delegate count. He passed on another run two years ago, when race-watchers thought the nomination was within his reach. But the 2016 election might present his best opening yet. Chris Christie is tarred by Bridgegate (etc., etc.). Scott Walker could wind up similarly tarnished by a slow-motion scandal of his own, involving public workers dispatched on campaign tasks. Ted Cruz and Rand Paul are ... Ted Cruz and Rand Paul. Meanwhile, early indicators suggest an appetite for Huckabee and his brand of conservative populism: This winter, at least four polls put him at the head of the primary packtwo of them even before Christies reputation tanked.

no it was not... and no it does not... i wish he and John McCain would just go away... far, far away...
Goober says “hey”!
The liberal tools in the media would love to drum up another 12 candidate republican primary.
Just say no to tax hike Mike!
Huckabee is a strong hit with anyone who eats road kill.
I strongly disagree that Huckabee is our guy, but he has a lot of supporters who must be very carefully, and very consistently supported.
Huckabee is very important.
I do not think however he is our guy. His people though must be listened to, very carefully.
Must be contract time at Fox?
Maybe as the Democrat candidate.
And I could be the King of England if only I wanted it.
RE: Maybe as the Democrat candidate.
Hey Huckabee (D) vs Ted Cruz (R).... I like it !!
“folksy charisma and self-deprecating wit”
So that is what that cornpone is called. It is as impressive as Obama’s street talk, or Hillary’s ebonics.
Who keeps pushing this guy?
No, he doesn’t have a chance in hell.
Maybe that’s why they’re pushing.
RE: Must be contract time at Fox?
He makes more at FOX than he would as President ( unless we raise the President’s salary ).
Lol.
Just lol.
A Liberal magazine telling the Republicans who they should run for 2016. Who do they think we are? Republicans?
“The GOP strategists who told me they are urging Huckabee to run recalled how as governor he once earned more than 30 percent of the African American vote in Arkansas, where he also defended social services for immigrants.”
The whole point of the exercise. Another whitewashed jackass prophesy.
I just don’t trust this guy. I think he would be more of a “Big Government Conservative” type than Bush was. I believe he would govern to the Left, with the goal of trying to make people like him. As a matter of fact, I think he would make Bush look like Michael Savage in that regard. He’ll TRY to honestly be friends with everybody, and as a result, he’ll be loved by no one. The liberals will hate him, because that’s just what they do, and the right won’t be able to tolerate him, because he’ll forget them after using their support to get into office. His drive for ‘civility’ will turn him into a liberal punching bag.
Better than what we have.
Not as good as what we could have.
Interesting dichotomy.
