The aircraft would disintegrate on impact with the water. If it went straight down over land, especially in a jungle, there would be only a smoking hole, which would make finding the crash sight extremely difficult.
And if a bomb went off at high altitude over a jungle it will take weeks/months to locate a piece of the plane. Over water it might just take a week.
