One imaginative fellow had them land the plane somewhere remote, repaint it, get a new transponder, then load it with an Iranian nuke, and send it to LAX.

It's not a bad theory, but wouldn't air traffic control need to know about the plane and help it land?

wouldn’t have to land. Just get into LA airspace and press the red button.

Apparently most flights are unknowns until approaching American airspace. After this, I bet that changes.

Air traffic control provides aircraft separation. The pilots do the flying.
