Thanks for the post, those are important factors that should be noted.

My point is that Putin is in a far stronger position today than Hitler was in the 1920’s.

The east and south of Ukraine are heavily Russian in language and culture. They have little in common with West Ukraine. But neither they nor the Belarusians want to be absorbed into Russia. The affection for Russia has its limits.

Is this the same Robert Zubrin who is the head of the Mars Society?

But he has no interest in world conquest. And most Russians don’t want to take up the draining responsibilities of empire again.

What he does want to do is render NATO impotent. To a considerable extent, he has already succeeded. Its not in Europe’s interest to get into a conflict with Russia.

Dugin does not speak for Putin

Seems awfully odd that they would show their cards at this crucial time. Call me skeptical.

How silly.

I would not underestimate this man, or his ideology. I have been reading about him, and the new Russian ideology.

This is not an insignificant crackpot. Nor is what is playing out a replay of the twentieth century, with the Russians still as the communists, and us as the freedom loving democracies.

This new ideology is a not a recreation of communism , but a reaction to criticisms of the weakness of western society. Just as we won the cold war by allowing communism to fail on its own internal contradictions, this ideology predicts the same for us. It sees us as the new communists, something conservatives would agree with.

American conservatives are in the awkward position of agreeing with some of their criticisms of western society, but still trying to support our country, even if it means supporting the society with which we have so much to disagree with.

Novorossia already has reported the no arm patch Russians with APCs, light arms and mines well into their territory. Donetsk is another done deal for the Russians as well. Poland will do well to recall 1936 and Hungary should remember 1956.

The town I grew up in didn’t have TV in 1956 but I recall the Movietone newsreels of Russian tanks in Hungary. I don’t believe Russian character has changed since.

Putin has been running Russia for along time. We can be pretty sure he isn’t going to turn into the new Hitler.

Whatever happens we can't allow our "domination of Atlanticism" to weaken!

When they return from their travels through the galaxy, we don't want the Atlanteans making their alliance with the Russkies!

Talk about it hell. They would be giving Putin a list of targets that the Obungler wants destroyed, like red cities and states.

Sounds like Putin is a Hitler in reverse. But then, odumbo’s not worried as he plays more golf.

Are you suggesting that Dugin has become a deliberate lightning rod? Maybe a Soros pawn to make Putin look bad? Dugin seems far closer to Zhirinovsky, and his dreams of the Ottomans and Russian Orthodox working together seems like nothing any Russian would ever come up with.

What new Russian ideology have you been reading about? Dugin’s seems like an obvious fake: (1) he’s a political opponent of Putin, (2) his plan hinges on a Turkish-Orthodox alliance, (3) his comments are timed for exactly when they will instill the most anti-Russian paranoia by those he expects to be pro-Russian.

My guess is he’s not actually a fake, but a complete nobody dredged up by the West. If you need an idiot to say something stupid, you can always find one.

Just keep in mind that Zubrin is just the articles author, he’s summarizing the analysis done by one of Putin’s advisors.

Dugin’s influence was within the National Bolshevik Party, a party which adored Stalin, and borrowed heavily from both Soviet and Nazi imagery. It was aligned initially with Zhirinovsky’s National Salvation Front, but came to oppose them too, because the NBP was too pro-national-socialist. It was banned by the Russian Supreme Court in a move that was interpreted as being pro-Putin.

Dugin wasn’t from any wing of the NBP which was less radically opposed to Putin. In fact, he left the NBP for the even more rabidly hate-filled National Bolshevist Front. the NBP established allies with other ideologies to oppose Putin, but the NBF sought insurrection.

Dugin argues for a Russian-Arab yet also his claim to authority is that he is supported by members of the Russian Orthodox Church. This is similar to a klansman claiming to be supported by the AME Zion church.
