Sen. Rand Paul blasted fellow GOP Sen. Ted Cruzs frequent references to Ronald Reagan on Monday, deepening the rift between the two potential 2016 presidential candidates.
In an op-ed for Breitbart News, Paul (R-Ky.) took several shots at Cruz for espousing a foreign policy framework in the mold of Reagan. He also criticized Cruzs frequent bashing of the GOP for nominating insufficiently conservative presidential candidates like Bob Dole, John McCain and Mitt Romney.
I dont claim to be the next Ronald Reagan nor do I attempt to disparage fellow Republicans as not being sufficiently Reaganesque, Paul wrote. I will remind anyone who thinks we will win elections by trashing previous Republican nominees or holding oneself out as some paragon in the mold of Reagan, that splintering the party is not the route to victory.

I wonder if he is also including Sarah Palin in this rant?
If so, then he is the ultimate backstabber since like Cruz, he owes his Senate seat to her.
Rand Paul Trumpets Palin Endorsement
It's now become abundantly clear that he's been hanging out with McConnell way too much, and that the GOP-E stench has engulfed him.
What you said.
Nonsense.
Rand and Paul are conducting just the debate this party needs. Both believe in individual liberty and both have different ideas on how best to achieve that.
For the first time in decades, we have two eloquent and intelligent men vying for the presidency. Let's relish that for just a bit before we start carping at each other.
Give me a choice of Paul and ANY dimocrap and I'll be there....But Chris Christie...? It ain't going to happen...
I knew there was something about this man I didn’t like nor trust. He is fooling himself if he thinks taking on Ted Cruz will win him anything. This will be his downfall, and it doesn’t surprise me.
Dumb.. just really dumb!
Paul was raised Episcopalian, but converted to Presbyterian. He worships at the Presbyterian Church in Bowling Green, Ky., where he’s been a member since 1993. His wife is a deacon there.
‘Paul has spoken of the Presbyterian Church and Christianity on the whole as a safeguard for morality, saying that Christianity is the basis of American society and values, and that “it helps a society to have that religious underpinning. ... I think it helps to have a people who believe in law and order and who have a moral compass or a moral basis for their day-to-day life.” He has also said, “I personally think you could probably have prayer in public school.”’

The man has an ear of stone.
I’m truly wondering how the GOP thinks it’s ever going to win a presidential election. They’re far more effective in tearing each other’s guts out than directing their fire at the darkside enemy.
Libs jerk themselves off at all the rancor tearing that party apart.
Keep talking, Rand. Everyone knows that Dole, McCain and Romney are above criticism. STOP telling the damn truth, Ted, OR, I’ll have a hissy fit befitting Johnny Boehner! Bob
Flake like his sold man.
He will be endorsing Mitch McConnell before long.
The first step in taking America back is educating the people, which is exactly what Ted Cruz is doing. Bob
How is that a “split”? There is nothing contradictory there. Sounds like politico is desperate to gin up a fight between Cruz and Rand Paul.
You are CORRECT!
Also, the headline is bogus
“Rand Paul slams Ted Cruz”. He doesn’t even mention Ted Cruz. What Paul was quoted as saying in the article, I agree with 100%.
Neither Paul nor Cruz understand Reagan. Further,
the GOPe and the GOPe haters here don’t understand
Reagan either.
EARTH to all equaters, Is that the best you got?
All those type comments are so ...... intellectual? Deep? Intelligent? Brilliant? Profound? Reflective? Cerebral? Analytical? Conceptual? Scintillating? Illuminating?
Nope, I just can't quite come up with the exact right word to describe this type of thinking.
I’m all in favor of a fair fight. It is fair to point out the liberal actions of a candidate and how it hurts conservatism/America...with examples. Isn’t it?
And if Paul continues his course, we will have Mitt or Jeb. Which increasingly looks like the GOP plan. I mean lets face it. The ONLY person close to Cruz on the field is Paul. And he is turning day by day. What better man to create division in the resistant base and open the door to a repeat of last time?
I said quite a while back he was not to be trusted. Since that time he has proven why. I don’t claim to be psychic or smarter than the average bear. I just paid attention to his record, statements and actions.
Which we should all be doing. And if we can’t admit that a man open to illegals who is proud to back a guy like Mitch belongs nowhere near the top of the ticket, we deserve another Romney race. Because this guy has clearly given us warning.
Lately he is more out of the closet GOP leadership's water boy.
Looks like he is for amnesty, and then his comments about not being able to do much about Obamacare is problematic.
I think Rand will be status quo GOP establishment cronyism supporter.
Bold colors, Rand... bold colors.
Rand, are you becoming a nut or a RINO?
“Sounds like politico is desperate to gin up a fight between Cruz and Rand Paul.”
Exactly, and watch all the people start throwing chairs at each other. The commies at Politico are laughing their butts off. Stupid fights are breaking out all over tonight. Sometimes FR looks like a kindergarten room.
