He bobbled the spelling, but President Obama had nothing but respect for the "women of soul" who shook and rattled the rafters of the White House Thursday night.
"What a lineup!" Mr. Obama declared at the outset of a concert that featured a generations-spanning array of soul singers stretching from musical legends Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle to 20-year-old Ariana Grande.
Mr. Obama paid tribute to Franklin for turning her signature song "Respect" into "a rallying cry for African-Americans, women and then everyone who felt marginalized."
The pumped-up audience gave a hearty laugh but was more than willing to forgive the president for spelling it "R-S-P-E-C-T."

Of course the clown cannot spell. While the rest of were at least studying a bit during high school, the clown “spent the last two years of high school in a haze. Attended classes sparingly, drank beer heavily and tried drugs enthusiastically.”

As an FYI, Dan Quayle did not spell potato -— he was at a school where a child was asked to spell potato by Mr. Quayle.
Mr. Quayle was given some flash cards (by the press) and one of the cards - the potato card - was purposely misspelled.
There was a flash card, with “potato” misspelled as “potatoe” on it. Quayle looked at the card, said the word aloud, and the student spelled it out. Quayle then apologetically said something like: “No, I’m sorry. That’s incorrect” and turned the card around so that the student (and the camera) could see it.
Odingo would have fallen for the same trick.
‘Course, the press would not set him up like they did to Mr. Quayle.

Why should he be able to spell correct when he has earned none? After all, he cannot correctly pronounce “Corpsman”. Were he one.

If Dan Quayle had done that we’d never hear the end of it.
I don’t know, maybe they didn’t play Aretha in Indonesian schools where he learned to love the beautiful sound of the Muslim call to prayer. Maybe when he went to live with Grandma & Grandpa in Hawaii, he didn’t listen to Aretha, and by the time he got to high school he was all choom-ganged out to have been repeating the spelling.
Just because most 50 year olds in America can spell respect because of Aretha’s song, doesn’t mean that Obama can. He isn’t like most of us. He’s barely American, and what part of us he is, is the part that hates what America is and was founded on.
