Well, as a right-wing pro-Israel American Jew, I don't take offense to anything Bachmann is saying. Nor is she anti-Semitic nor is she buying into any canard. There's no excuse for the Jewish Left's embrace of Obama, and for its failure to realize that he had anti-Semitic as well as anti-Israel proclivities from his upbringing as a leftist radical, in addition to his friendships with Islamist radicals, all deeply ingrained in his ideology and experience. For many Jewish voters to be uneducated or blind to his history, plus the tyrannical changes he's bringing about in the US and his foreign policy disasters, is shameful.

Bachmann, on the other hand, had an extensive exposure to Israel as a teenager, and has always been pro-Israel and philo-Semitic. Her husband comes from a Swiss family which saved Jews from the Nazis during the Holocaust. Sorry to see she's stepping down from elective office now.

BTW, the headline on the posted article is deceiving. Bachmann didn't say all US Jews are selling out Israel. She was limiting her critique to Jewish Obamatons.

It’s accurate that they would sell out Israel, if they could. But they cannot sell Israel, because they don’t own it, and Israel’s support in the US is not dependent on American Jews, even if they did own it. These are the people who were ok with turning back the boats.

I don't take offense, nor have I ever suggested she's antisemitic or anything other than a strong supporter of Israel.

However she is clearly playing to a longstanding antisemitic canard of Jewish insularity and disloyalty. And though she's not suggesting it, the get what you deserve rationale for the persecution of Jews. You say

I'd rephrase it to suggest that they're no excuse for the left's embrace of Obama.....

Most Jews on the hard left, and probably on the right too, are there because of political positions unrelated to Israel. Singling out leftist Jews for special criticism does not win votes.
