Not really. Rick Perry only got 51% in the Texas GOP gubernatorial primary in 2010 against Hutchison and Medina, but still cruised to a comfortable double-digit win in November that year against the Democrat.
I think it is significant. We are not talking about whether the primary will determine whether Cornyn will be reelected or not. He will be reelected.
And using the Perry 2010 primary is comparing apples to oranges. Hutchinson was an Establishment candidate and Medina a Tea Party choice. Perry had been governor for ten years.
