Putin is living in the 1970’s and dreaming of putting the SU back together. Short of that he’ll take as much of it as he can get. Crimea now and eastern Ukraine later. Maybe after that another Baltic adventure. He is a bully who enjoys beating those smaller than him. Putins adventures will not end with Crimea, guanteed.
Yes, he’s a bully and he’s a real menace to freedom in much of the world with his support for the Iranian nuclear project, and his assistance to Assad in Syria. He’s doing his best to thwart the US without regard to the results.
Vladimir Putin may be a lot of things, but he’s not stupid. He is a very intelligent and strategic leader who knows what he’s doing. The West would be foolish to underestimate him.
