It`s made of folded and hammer forged steel otherwise known as Damascus steel and in a Katana or full length Japanese Samurai style. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damascus_steel

The Damascus pattern is very fine and some would say why pay extra, about $700, when a good carbon steel version can be had for about $200 but I think the pattern is very elegant and beautiful.

Some guys will pay thru the nose for a Kimber when a more economical .45 in 1911 Gov. will work just fine? That's a personal choice, I for one find the Damascus pattern intriguing and worth the money.

Look up Damascus knifes.
