Like the students will not simply celebrate on another day?
WTF?
Or drive far and wide to get there booze and drive back drunk
Guess where I will not be on March 17?
Good. I am sure st Patrick would never want to be remembered by irreverent drunkenness on a scale of what goes on here.
In Dublin, and all over Ireland, st Patrick’s day is honored as any sets feast day, as a holy day
Anyone partying on that day should be able to give a quick biography of this great saint and leave the excuse for an expensive brawling college town party blitz to some other day or not at all
One has to wonder what expenses are allayed. Overtime police presence, sanitation? Medical?
I’ve been to the NYC parade, as well as to the one in my home town more times than I care to count
I’ve been to college town ‘what is it we’re celebrating?’st Patrick’s day deals like this and they have nothing to do with being Irish. Maybe some time ago but no
Didn’t learn a thing from prohibition?
If you REALLY want to party observe St. Urho’s Day March 16th. Cabbage meatloaf, grasshopper cakes...you’ll be too wasted to do anything on St. Patrick’s Day!
But,we’ll be open for business on May 5th!
Sounds like a grievous insult to an actual historic figure. Or were they threatened with a lawsuit if they used the "religious" connotation?
It’s like a farm support program... for bars! Being paid not to operate.
And raising the mexican flag higher than old glory, higher than any proper Irish American would ever raise the Irish flag here in the states. But I don’t think that’s what this is about. This is about the takeover of a town by tens of thousands of drunken kids who don’t care about st article or probably even their heritage or the Irish
If you’ve never witnessed such a scene, you have to imagine. It is an all day deal and it is ugly. It’s not a celebration If it were, it would be just as huge if it fell on a Saturday or a Sunday But its not. It’s more about not going to class
-——grasshopper cakes——??
We have no grass hoppers in March and thus can get none of their cakes. Guess it must be just cabbage and meatloaf
What is a grass hopper cake anyway?
Per Democrats, 30 is the new 21.
They don’t tolerate people under the age of 25 having any responsibility, save for voting. And many would like to lower the age of voting to 16.
In Boston they’re fighting over the gays being in the parade with a banner. Nothing to do with St Patrick. Why don’t they get another day?
Grievous, like this takeover
Knowing st Patrick’s life story, having grown up in a school named for him, i can assure anyone he would not want any group of kids getting drunk at all, never mind all day, in his name or any other
The bar owners have taken advantage of these stupid kids and st Patrick long enough, I’m sure
THOSE are the ones to investigate.
OK Ralph ... you have an 800 square foot joint ... HOW do you intend to serve(ice) 20,000 kids ???
I don't give a shit, Fred ... when I'm done with this weekend, I'll build a new joint and retire.
Legend has ir that St Urho drove the grasshoppers from Finland so on his day cakes shapped like grasshoppers are baked.
Just one of many websites...
Very good point.
Dry-out day Ping.
