There was more of that going on than shooting. Actually, there was no shooting.
So they’re about as trustworthy as MSNBC or CNN.
So if I dress like a camouflage ninja, hot chicks will flock to me?
I don’t trust their media either anymore than I trust ours, but what are people in Crimea saying? I’m sure Russia has shut off their internet and telephone by now so they can’t communicate with the outside world and tell us how oppressed they are by invading Russians. Right? Look, if this is a lie and just propaganda, where’s the other side of it? I genuinely would like to read about it. Some people in Ukraine may really prefer the Russians over the EU. Just considering it could be possible.

Some of you people scare the shit out of me.
There was no shooting from Coalition forces for over 5 months after Saddam overran Kuwait. The most prepared military in the world, one that spent more than all of its allies and adversaries put together, spent almost 6 months getting ready to push Saddam back into Iraq. Ukraine may or may not resist the Russian onslaught. But its peacetime shoestring military will take weeks or months to get ready to fight. And if Ukraine fights, the body counts will pile up in ways that shock both participants and outside observers.
Russia is doing to the West in Ukraine what the West did to Russia in Yugoslavia. NATO and the Americans did back then what they wanted without regard for Russian interests.
The Russians see their action in Ukraine as payback. The West is helpless to enforce its own interests. And the Russians don’t care if the West doesn’t like what its doing. Kosovo gives Russia ample precedent precedent to carve up a rebellious country.
There was plenty of shooting, and raping and pillaging by the Iraqi forces when they went into Kuwait.
Nothing like that happened in Crimea.

Separate topic altogether. The question is whether the current lack of fighting means the Ukrainians are rolling over for the Russian invaders. If you look at Gulf War I, it's clear that planning, mobilization and staging, even for the US, took over 5 months. The Ukrainians will take weeks or months to get ready. The calm today may be the calm before the storm to come.
A home owner will not draw on a home invader who has the drop on him. Once the perp turns his back, the home owner may fetch the pistol he has hidden and start blazing away.
This wasn’t a hostile invasion, this was more like sending in reinforcements and protection. Crimea doesn’t agree with the ousting of the president, or with the idea of aligning with the EU. They want to stay right where they are, in the arms of the Russians. They just passed a resolution the other day saying as much to make sure the world knows that.

One must understand that Crimeans never considered themselves “Ukrainians”. 98% of the population speak Russian and have Russian ancestry, as Crimea is Russian since 1774, when Catherine’s the Great’s army conquered it from Ottomans.
The few Tartars living there are the remnants of Ottomans.
They were the only ones in Crimea to welcome with open arms the German occupiers in WWII.

Earlier rear admiral Denis Berezovsky swore allegiance to the people of Crimea taking control over Crimea’s newly formed Navy.
The ceremony took place in the Council of Ministers chamber in the presence of regional government officials, mayors of different cities and regions.
Those who took the oath promised “to respect and strictly observe the Constitution of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea” and to “promote the preservation of interethnic accord and civil peace” on the peninsula.”

It would be a toss up. Better restaurants in Kiev though.
Oh there were lies about that one too, especially the one about the Iraqis stealing incubators....The Emir got himself a real good PR firm for that one.
Of course, but i’m speaking of personal safety. The Kiev rioters from right sector do not show signs of respecting people who aren’t like them.
