The Obama administration on Sunday worked to isolate Russia on the world stage even as its president, Vladimir Putin, showed no signs of rolling back his military intervention in Ukraine.
President Obama spoke by phone with leaders from Great Britain, Germany and Poland, and he dispatched Secretary of State to Kiev on Tuesday for a show of solidarity with the new Ukrainian government.
After suspending preparations for an upcoming Group of 8 summit in Sochi, the administration began canceling lower-level diplomatic and economic meetings with Russian counterparts. And senior administration officials warned that Russia could be booted from the G8 altogether and that its economy would suffer because of Putins decision to occupy the Crimean peninsula following the ouster last week of Ukraines pro-Russia president, Viktor Yakunovych.
The strategy, described in a briefing senior administration officials on the condition of anonymity, was aimed at demonstrating to Putin that his intervention in Crimea would not go unpunished while also offering him an offramp if he chose to reverse course.
It is Russias choice to behave in this manner, one senior administration said, or whether it wants to return to the community of civilized nations.
Yet it was unclear Sunday if Putin cared or was even listening to the condemnation of Obama and U.S. allies. He sought and received authorization from the Russian parliament for military force just hours after Obama warned him to stay out of Ukraine, and administration officials acknowledged that Russia had reinforced its military position over the weekend.
The administration officials said more than 6,000 Russian troops in Ukraine and that its forces now had completely operational control of Crimea. The U.S. has seen evidence of unrest and ethnic skirmishes in eastern Ukraine, an official said...

Obama tells Putin if you like Ukraine you can keep Ukraine
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Now THAT wouldn’t be a lie.
Two big issues in Russia’s favor:
1. Russia is rich in natural resources; someone will always want to strike a deal.
2. Obama is a dipshit.
Amen; don’t know whether you’re Protestant and I don’t mean to bring in any kind of religious argument here except as to the bedrock on which the values Churchill spoke of were built, but did you know that Queen Elizabeth II in her coronation year 1953, commanded that a King James Bible be given to every child born in Britain that year?
Always happy to hear from Sam, the father of the American Revolution.
Was raised RC but just consider myself non denominational Christian with some RC guilt holding me over their way ;)
RE the Queen...Nope I didn’t but to be sure A little morality guidance sure can go a long way.
So, Mr. Obama, one lump . . .
. . . or lots and lots of lumps?!?
Coke. They needed it to get back to Barry's World of Make Believe where King Barry the Infallible lives.
All the us blabbering about "isolating" Russia will do is make a half dozen European countries publicly admit they're going to ignore the US effort to isolate Russia instead of just quietly ignoring Russia moving into the Ukraine once Putin limits himself to the Eastern part of the country.
What's Barry going to promise them if they go along, a natural gas pipeline across the Atlantic? That he'll build a fleet of ships to keep them supplied with oil and natural gas? Oh, I know, he'll give the coal industry a bunch of EPA waivers and sell Europeans coal at a really, really, low price.
Barry is flopping around like a fish out of water and the whole world other than the complete idiots who worship him knows it.
This morning when surfing news channels I caught a discussion(sorry, forgot which channel) with a well known college professor commenting about the Ukraine mess. He said that in 2010 Ukraine had a monitored(by the US and many other western countries)national election that elected their president as well as the legislature. The elections were declared fair and legal. Now comes 2014 and the riots start, resulting in the overthrow of the president and their 1300 legislators are thrown out of office.
A council then appointed a new president as well as new legislators. Not elected, but appointed. Now comes Putin in the Crimea and so far only the Crimea protecting their interests in the naval and other military facilities in there.
So who supports the legal and proper government of Ukraine? Putin or Obammy? Obammy seems to me to support the illegal self appointed government! Rebels, revolutionists.
Is Obammy, OKerry, the MSM and all the rest of the world on the wrong side?
What makes you think Obama and Putin are on opposite sides?

Was a part of Russia, at least on the map , for a long time.
From my perspective, I think it is correct to say now that we actually lost the Cold War. Just look at a resurgent Russia and a bankrupt US being run by a bunch of crony oligarchs. We have traded places.
The entire thing sounds like a mess. A modern ‘First Triumverate’ with three powerful Ukrainian politicians backstabbing each other for the last 10 years over hegemony. Yulia Tymoshenko, Viktor Yushchenko, and Viktor Yanukovych.
Of course the Russian for "offramp" translates as "blowjob."

What is Obama going to do?
Unfriend Putin on Facebook??
Putin is the most influential leader of the world, now. And it’s what the TV told the American Sheeple to vote for.
Only if you don't include our cities with more than 50,000 population.
But at least the homos can demand cakes be baked for them, and demand pictures taken of them eating it.
Amen to that.
