These types of treaties to ensure the “protection” of some nation are NEVER a good idea.

Britain had one with Belgium in 1914. The lost hundreds of thousands of men for that.

Britain and France had one with Poland in 1939. Even more were lost and Poland wasn’t free until 1989.

We made this stupid promise when Russia was in chaos, broke, and not much of a threat. We made it to a nation that wasn’t remotely unified enough.

Sorry to say but the U.S. should not go to war for this. We are just going to have to prop up what’s left of that country with aid, and settle in for Cold War 2.

Following your logic, allowing Russia to take eastern Ukraine and Crimea, What would happen if tomorrow Putin took Poland, Romania, Albania, Yugoslavia (a Mediterranean port), Greece and Hungary? Would it still be a non issue for America? After seeing the US stand by, would Free Europe turn to China for protection? And speaking of China, who has ratcheted up it's Asian ambitions, would they annex Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and the Philippines. Why not, if Putin gets away with it?

Soon isolationism leads to occupying a very small island, while the rest of the world runs amok. Isolationism is the bedrock of Obama’s philosophy. The world abhors a vacuum, and when America pulls out, something worse always rushes in.

For the third time in a hundred years, we are staring down the barrel of another European, or maybe world, war, only this time we don’t have the means, nor our people the will, to get involved. If we do, I’m afraid the results this time will be very different.
