OK — I thought you might be one of those people who live in a snow/ice free zone who have no clue as to the impact of freezing and thawing and winter maintenance on the roadways. With that said, in my opinion, NYC roads seem to fall apart faster than other roads in the northeast because (a) union labor is used to build and maintain the roads; (b) inferior materials due to corruption and incompetence; (c) volume; and (c) freeze-thaw cycles, which are worse in NYC where the temperature in the winter regularly goes above freezing during the day and below at night (as compared to Albany where the temperature remains below freezing for days and weeks at a time.
