If the battle is to be fought on this (and it very much needs to be fought), Cruz’s side has to have its act together...which it assuredly did not


I’m not so sure. It is very common to lose a battle but win a war. Doolittle’s raid on Japan comes to mind. Its non-military successes were very real and changed the tone of the war yet to come.

As Cruz did with Obamacare, IMO. And the war (political) is yet to come regarding ZeroCare. It’s not really started yet. We are in preliminary skirmishes.

Rather, the battle lines are being drawn.

Well, yes, but there was a coherent plan with the aftermath and recovery worked out with allies ahead of time. They didn’t just send them off and hope for the best.

In the case of the shutdown, neither the Republican House nor Senate could even agree on what was going on, much less whether they supported it.
