It would have been ahead of it’s time....if they had developed it in 1965 instead of 1975!!!
C’mon. It was a top interceptor and virtually invincible by earlier 1990s unless some camel jockeys abused it and tried to pull turns against F-15s. AFAIK it’s earlier variant scored a first kill in a Gulf War against USN F-18. It’s radar proved to be immune to countermeasures as well, Iraqi Foxbats disrupted numerous Allied sorties at the time.
