Republican Party Needs to Master the Message

With all due respect Dr. Sowell, I would submit that this is EXACTLY what Senator Ted Cruz has been saying from his very first day in the Senate. Unfortunately. his ideas of mastering a message of opposition to the outrageous actions of the 0bama administration has been completely rejected by the gOpE leadership! This is what has forced his hand to try to do something! And it's why the BASE of the GOP has responded to his attempts with such positive support. This is the first sign of life and fight we've seen from the GOP. Here's Senator Cruz explaining the situation to Rush Limbaugh last year after his filibuster strategy was rejected out of hand by McConnell et. al.

I will tell you the single biggest surprise in arriving to the Senate is the defeatist attitude here. I mean, we don’t even talk about how to win a fight. There’s no discussion. We talk about, “Hey, let’s get a show vote so we can go tell our constituents we’re doing something.” But I promise you, Rush, if you had to sit through one Senate lunch, you’d be in therapy for a month.

Many of these are my friends, but they’ve been here a long time, and they’re beaten down, and they don’t believe we can win. They don’t believe it can happen, and the answer they say on every issue is, “No, we can’t do it. We can’t do it.

And Washington, look, in both parties you’ve got entrenched politicians who have barely veiled contempt for the American people. I mean they think their voters are gullible rubes, and, you know, you give them a little show vote, you tell ‘em, “Hey, I’m totally with you,” then they go to Washington and they don’t actually do what they say.

I would submit to you Dr. Sowell that:
1) the GOP establishment created the void;
2) Senator Ted Cruz has appropriately filled the void;
3) if they wish to remain relevant, the GOP should follow after Senator Cruz rather than tell him they're going to punch him in the nose.

p.s. Republicans should not run away from the Government 'shut-down' issue. First, the GOP didn't shut down the government. What was attempted was a moral obligation to deal with the debt by deferring implementation of the biggest economy and job-killer going ... 0bamacare. 0bama said no and chose to shut down the government rather than do the right thing. Funny thing is, just a few months later he takes the unconstitutional unilateral action of doing just what he chose to 'shut down' the government over mere months previously. And don't forget about all of his shut down actions intentionally inflicting pain on citizens, taxpayers and Veterans visiting their own memorials! The liberals said a government shutdown was Armageddon. It was a fart in the wind even with 0bama's petty actions! Republicans should want to talk about this issue in the press, not run from it!
