San Francisco is bad news, so is San Diego and Los Angeles, no?

SF is liberal hell. LA is little Mexico now as far as the vote goes. San Diego just elected a Republican mayor..

The vast majority of the rest of the state is red. There are a couple other blue areas on the north coast around Eureka but the rest of the state will go red every time. As I said the worst case scenario for the right is a push. If the balance changes it will be a senate step to the right.

This is also be why splitting this state is such a long shot.

As recently as 2004 San Diego County voted Republican, as did most of the southern counties other than Los Angeles (2-1 margin), Imperial, and Santa Barbara (by narrower margins).

If San Diego, Imperial, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Inyo counties formed a state, the Republicans would be very competitive in it...at least until the demographics flipped it.
