Can’t you have a discussion without name-calling?

Sowell is one of the most brilliant minds out there. This article from him about Cruz is very surprising, to say the least. The fact that he is getting flak all over for it tells you a lot of other people are surprised too.
But that is all there is to it- it is surprising and curious, from a usually right-on-target writer. In fact this may be the FIRST thing he ever wrote I have not agreed with.
I did not call you a name. I said your opinion was squishy.

Expressing an opinion on a subject by saying you don't know whether or not you agree with it is a "squishy" opinion. If you think that is "name calling", then you have a pretty squishy idea about what is or is not an ad-hominem attack.
