Star-Ledger slams legal meddling with concealed-carry law
New Jersey's biggest newspaper isn't happy about Wyoming's attempt to meddle in its gun laws. It seems Wyoming is leading a coalition of 19 states supporting a man's Supreme Court challenge to New Jersey's concealed-carry law, and the Star-Ledger think the least populated state in the union should "butt out." States "have broad powers to set gun policy, and in ours, a strong majority supports strict laws," the paper says in a blistering editorial, explaining that most people in the state don't want to worry that "the guy theyre fighting with over a parking spot might be packing heat."
"Do they want us meddling in their gun laws?" the paper asks, noting that Wyoming's loose gun laws are a threat to New Jersey because they make it easy for criminals to bring guns east. Wyoming ranked 6th in gun deaths per capita in 2010, the paper says, concluding that "the problem isnt our laws. Its yours." Wyoming's governor, however, says his state is supporting the New Jersey man's challenge to the state's requirement for concealed-carry permit holders to prove a "justifiable need" because the case "impacts the right to keep and bear arms outside of the home," the AP reports.
The liberals of New Jersey seek national banning of guns so maybe NJ needs get bent.
"One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws." - Martin Luther King Jr.
True. States should have broad powers to set gun policy, so long as the right of the people to keep and bear arms is not infringed. So long as they do not infringe through restrictions on the types of weapons owned or carried, how much ammunition can be loaded, owned, or carried, or where on public property a person can carry, it's okay to set gun policy state by state.
In NJ, you need a permit merely to handle a gun. No joke.
Also applies to BB guns and sling shots. Again, no joke.
I finally found an M&P Shield .40 yesterday, new in box, on the shelf. Handed the man my driver’s license, my CCP, and my MasterCard, filled out a couple of sales forms, and ten minutes later I was down the road with my new pistol. As it should be everywhere.
Philadelphia is in Pennsylvania, which is a shall issue state. Pennsylvania has strong preemption laws. That means Philadelphia can not create their own gun laws.
a concealed carry permit in Pennsylvania is $19.95, is good for five years, and if you have no criminal record, the county sheriff has to issue you one.
Open carry is completely legal. There are no regulations against modern sporting rifles or magazine capacity.
Couldn’t you afford another “l”?
Did the same thing in Pa. in January when I bought my M&P Shield .40. $399.00 plus tax.
