What the House GOP needs is discussed at length here. Short version: A new strategy and new leadership.
Speaker John Boehner would be acting selflessly if he announced his intention of passing the gavel before the summer recess to whomever the GOP Conference selects. Such a move would allow for one of those famous D.C. resets, but whether it is Majority Leader Eric Cantor who replaces him or Jeb Hensarling or Tom Price, the change-over would allow a refocused and crucially energized House GOP to campaign with a new plan and a new face heading into the fall elections.
The Speaker is obviously a good man with a great heart, but rallying the GOP inside and outside of the House requires energy and vision as well as a command of the new tools of communication and a willingness to use them.
The Speaker cannot be forced out. There wont be a coup. He has the loyalty of long-serving friends and a good machine for everything except vote counts, and he has worked prodigiously to raise money for members across the country. He has lots and lots of hard-earned IOUs out across the country. No, if he retires from the Speakers chair it will be because he thought it was best.
There wont be a revolution. But a graceful announcement and exit would serve the country he loves and the party that has helped him to achieve remarkable things for the son of a barkeep.

Cantor the Weasal is no better.
We need a conservative, not these corporate whores.
“Cantor the Weasal is no better.”
Agreed. In fact, Cantor may be worse.
“We need a conservative, not these corporate whores.”
Absolutely. Not just Boehner, but resignations should also be demanded from Cantor, McCarthy, and McMorris-Rodgers. The whole “leadership team” has acted in lockstep and must go.
We need solid conservatives in charge for a change.
boehner will be gone... he will be purged... he must be or we all fail and America dies.
Speaker of the House John Boehner, House Majority Leader Eric I. Cantor (R-VA), House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL), John Shimkus (R-IL), Devin Nunes (R-CA), Hal Rogers (R-KY), Dave Camp (R-MI), Howard “Buck” McKeon (R-CA), Darrell Issa (R-CA), Ed Royce (R-CA) Howard Coble (R-NC), Jon Runyan (R-NJ), Frank Wolf (R-VA), Ken Calvert (R-CA), Chris Collins (R-NY), Charlie Dent (R-PA), Mike Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Michael Grimm (R-NY), Richard Hanna (R-NY), Doc Hastings (R-WA), Peter King (R-NY), Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ), Pat Meehan (R-PA), Gary Miller (R-CA), Dave Reichert (R-WA), Christopher Smith (R-NJ) and David Valadao (R-CA).
These are the traitors.
THEY ARE NOT TRAITORS, THEY ARE REPUBLICANS. Those who are Republican nowadays are politicians first! NOW, the Republicans who did not vote for the ceiling raise are the Cowards. They should replace Boehner ASAP....AND THE SAME SHOULD HAPPEN IN THE SENATE!
The votes are there to vote out this worthless leadership.
IF THEY DON’T, THEN WE NEED A THRID PARTY NOW.
REMEMBER it took a third party in 1856 JUST FOUR YEARS TO WIN THE WHITE HOUSE. (What was the name of that party?)
TIME TO SCALP THE WHIGS AGAIN
Take the gavel away from him. Support Eric Gurr to oust John Boehner in OH-8
Also, press your Representative to NOT support Boehner for Speaker.
And don’t let Cantor get his hands on it, either. Support Dave Brat to oust Eric Cantor in VA-7
Also, press your Representative to NOT support Cantor for Speaker.
The Speaker of the House does not have to be a member of Congress. Does that open up any possibilities?
Boner is being blackmailed into NOT stepping down. In truth, he’d like to lose re-election and hope Obama doesn’t release the pictures anyway.
Nice. Thanks for writing it.
