A Worcester (MA) man has been charged with enticing a 10-year-old New York child into producing sexually explicit videos and then sending the videos to him by email, according the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York.
Brian Belanger, 21, was arrested Friday at his Worcester apartment and brought before a federal judge in U.S. District Court in Albany, where U.S. Magistrate Judge Hon. Randolph F. Treece ordered Belanger detained until a hearing scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Richard S. Hartunian's office.
According to Hartunian's office, a federal criminal complaint alleges that Belanger, using the nickname "zombieshadow" met the boy online through Playstation 3.
"While talking through the game's headset feature, Belanger told the child that someone was trying to kill Belanger, and that the child could help him by providing sexually explicit videos of himself that Belanger could in turn give to the other person," according to the release.
Belanger allegedly "directed the child what to do in the videos." The boy emailed numerous videos of him engaged in "sexually explicit conduct" to Belanger over a three month period, according to the release.
On Jan. 25 the child's father found the emails and videos on the child's iPad and alerted law enforcement.
If convicted, Belanger faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years imprisonment, with a maximum penalty of 30 years, potential fines of up to $250,000, and a required term supervised release of at least 5 years, and up to life, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's office. If convicted, Belanger would be required to register as a sex offender.
The investigation and arrest of Belanger is the result of an investigation by the Colonie New York Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Albany Division, the New York State Police, the Worcester Massachusetts Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Worc Telegram said, "The affidavit stated that Mr. Belanger instructed the boy to do "sexual things," in the video, including touching his naked penis and masturbating. The boy complied, and between October and last month, sent more than 20 videos of himself to Mr. Belanger, according to the affidavit. Mr. Belanger continued to tell the boy he was getting texts from the person who wanted to kill him, and engaged in FaceTime communications on the boy's iPad.
The boy told investigators what Mr. Belanger looked like, and said he had identified himself early on as Brian. He also told the boy he was 21 and from Massachusetts, the affidavit stated.
>>Authorities used a subpoena to match the PlayStation account the boy gave authorities with Mr. Belanger, and subpoenaed information about his email address from Google and Charter Communications. They all came back to Mr. Belanger's Worcester address, according to the affidavit. Worcester police gave authorities a copy of Mr. Belanger's driver's license, which matched a description given by the boy. The address on the license matched all the addresses authorities obtained for Mr. Belanger, according to the affidavit. "

Mr Belanger is definitely not too bright. Ah someone like this would never get caught, right...?
I declare this article bigoted. Just another GLAAD LAD having a gay old time. Stop bullying him.
I thought this was now considered a “basic human right?”
Why the hell would a parent give a 10 year old kid an iPad?
Apparently there are large blocks of time where this child is unsupervised.

Vendomes version of a just and proper punishment:
I would chain his hands and legs, then pull him up four flights of metal fire escape stairs, feet first.
Then I would kicked him in the family jewels just enough to cause a stomach ache every 15 minutes for 8 hours.
After that I would push him out a window letting him fall four stories into a pile of razor wire 5 rolls high and 5 rolls wide.
He could lay in the pile of razor wire for two days in the desert sun and then I would release a flock of crows and 1 gallon of scarabs right next to him.
But thats just me.

I completely agree and would gladly do it to the sicko myself, and at the same time, the boy’s parents should have been aware of his online communications and taught him enough to know that he should have gone to them when the threats started. At ten years old one should be well enough aware to know when something is totally wrong and inappropriate.
That doesn’t mean I don’t think the POS offender should hang.
“[C]harged with allegedly...”
Should be teaching this kid how to shoot firearms or mechanics.
Leave the kids alone.
I’m surprised that Mr. Belanger hasn’t yet turned out to be a member of the Mass. state legislature.
Whatever happened to the days when dads would play catch with their kids in the back yard? Today, we should be thankful there is a father in the house.
