Russian police detained gay rights activists who tried to protest on Moscow's Red Square and in St Petersburg on Friday, shortly before Vladimir Putin opened the Sochi Winter Olympics, gay rights activists said.
Police in Moscow and St Petersburg did not immediately comment on the reports by the gay activists, who said 10 protesters were detained in Moscow and four in Russia's second city.
A list posted by one rights activist on Facebook said two of those detained in Moscow were women from Sweden.
In St Petersburg, the protesters were detained after unfurling a banner declaring "Discrimination is incompatible with the Olympic Movement", gay rights group All Out said.

Hi,
I don’t think you’re overlooking anything. I think it is a matter of emphasis. What you’ve described, showing good by way of example does have its merits and benefits, but I think you would agree that it is inherently passive. It presupposes others will emulate such behaviors.
Unfortunately, we’ve seen the aggressiveness of deviant movements. Movements that by their very nature are unreasonable, totalitarian and not susceptible to good example. Now, if you accept the premise that these deviant movements are an existential threat (which I do) then you conclude that the only recourse is active resistance.
Try doing it in front of a abortion clinic or at the house of an abortionist.
Freedom of speech does not mean you get to do it anywhere, anytime.
So not allowing the promotion of homosexuality, bestiality, pedophilia and incest will result in the deaths of hundreds of millions of Americans?
That’s really odd, since much of our history such promotions were illegal and “hundreds of millions of Americans” weren’t killed.
I notice you didn’t address the history of government control.
I notice you avoided the issue of government controlled speech also.
And how were those ‘speech’ issues controlled?
Yes I followed the thread from the beginning.
In a few minutes I will have to go shovel snow, so I won’t necessarily see everything that is posted as it is posted..though I will be checking in.
It’s not about “locking up” people.
It’s about making the promotion of homosexuality, pedophilia, bestiality and incest illegal.
Fine ‘em.
The promoters of cultural rot on this thread want all of the above to be promoted, and not just in the US but all over the world.
No wonder we’re in the handbasked headed to hell.
One of the results of “it’s legal” is it soon morphs into “it’s mandatory” because those pushing the grossest of immorality and deviance are now holding reins of power, since “it’s legal”
I’ve watched the progression of the homo agenda since the mid to late 80s. It’s now verging into “mandatory”. I don’t have time to list examples but this one will do.
I live in a rural and rather conservative/libertarian area. A friend told us that a 16 year old high school girl was forced to go to sex ed classes that involved promotion of homosexuality. Her parents did not want her to go and neither did she.
They were told by the authorities that if she did not go, CPS would take her away from her parents.
Such speech was illegal under the headings of “obscenity” and other like descriptions.
I may be wrong, but I think what the other posters are promoting is making their disapproved speech nowhere, notime, and as such, enforced by Big Government.
Then enforce such a law.
Exactly.
Balding, would you just click on Fluffy’s screen name for a second?
Yes, I have that awareness too. That we have gone past the point of personal and probably electoral recovery.
It’s not for no reason that I walk around at least half the time with my temper at half boil. On a good day.
Still my mistrust of government authority is considerable, as I’m sure is yours.
But I did. Government is evolutionary. It has to firmly establish principles before it can delve into the “benevolent’ role of accepting contrary opinion. This is also the case when it devolves and finds it must shore up its founding principles.
There are usually many roadblocks for governments to get where we are. If there wasn’t, all nations would be representative republics. But they’re not. All manner of issues impede progress: cultural, tribal, etc.
It all comes down to how you view things. Are there some ideas and movements that pose existential threats to our society? If you say no then you have no problem with the “fundamental transformation” of Europe into an Islamic stronghold. Likewise with us becoming a barren wasteland of contraception, abortion, euthanasia and non-procreative deviant sexual practices.
Why? Whatever is at Fluffys’ name won’t change my position.
My arguments can stand on their own merits.
There aren’t any laws against the promotion of vice any more. And how can “I” as a private citizen enforce anything anwyay?
Fluffy has been escorted from the building.
Hopefully you will be soon as well. You are both promoting not just the homosexual agenda, but bestiality, pedophilia and incest as well.
Thank you.
Thank you for implicitly conceding the argument by forcing words into my mouth.
Have a nice rest of the day.
