In response to Three Prominent Bankers Found Dead From Apparent Suicides Inside A Week:
On Monday I reported on the odd rash of suicides by financial execs in just the span of a week. There's one more rather grisly death to add to the growing list. Following the apparent suicides of 2 London bankers and a former Fed economist in the US, the Denver Post is reporting that Richard Talley, founder and CEO of American Title, was found dead in his home from self-inflicted nail-gun wounds.

You just perfectly described probably the ONLY way a guy could do that to himself. I kinda suspect he had narcotic help or human assistance. If you want to call it that.

I don't know anything about the dead guy but his suicide doesn't sound right. Why would he shoot himself several times in the torso if he was trying to kill himself? That sounds like it would cause more pain then death. It would be interesting to see who he is connected to.

Bump fire is frowned on by OSHA.Must be a good idea, then. Isn't that the function of goobermint? Ferreting out every good idea and frowning on / prohibiting it?

Suicides prefer to go quick, with little pain. This is odd.
To: sheikdetailfeather
Suicide? This was a warning to others.

Actually, the tip of nail guns must be pressed into something or modified with another nail or wedge of wood, which holds the tip in the right position to allow for rapid fire. There is no way this was self-inflicted, unless this guy could handle pain and love it at the same time.

Well - if you have an agency and therefore employees that their JOB is to make things safe. . .then every time there is an accident - they will try and write a rule to stop that from happening again. Sounds good and logical until you realize that eventually everything will be eliminated. For anytime you perform any work or task - something will eventually happen. Life is a risk itself and risk can never be eliminated if your intention is to accomplish something.

hhmmm indeed!
Assuming it was a first-fix gun (not sure a second fix would pierce a skull) it would inflict very intense pain. You'd have to be plenty whacked out to fire multiple shots into yourself. As others have said maybe it was bump firing, but the torso and the head!? That'd have to be some heavy duty schtuff,or he had some assistance.

Exactly. That’s what people who are regulators at heart are incapable of grasping. You have to look at cost/benefit ratio. Not everything that has a finite benefit should be done. Some of those benefits are infinitesimal, or the costs/drawbacks of the policy itself or compliance are great enough for it not to be worth it.

In a few months, the various government agancies, like the Homeland Security Dep. will be buying up all the various lengths of nails, causing a shortage.
They will call them practice nails..

Estes also alleged in the 1980s that he had inside knowledge that Johnson was involved in the assassination of Kennedy.[10][11] In 1984, he provided a voluntary statement to a Grand Jury in Texas alleging that the homicide of a key investigator in the Department of Agriculture case was perpetrated by an aide to Johnson, Malcolm Wallace, upon orders from the then-Vice President.[4] When the Department of Justice asked for more information, Estes responded that he would provide information on eight other murders ordered by Johnson, including the assassination of Kennedy, in exchange for immunity from prosecution and a pardon.[4] According to Estes, Johnson set up the assassination in order to become president.[4] They refused.
