I believe that current usage is to reserve Oriental for things and not people. At least in public and on official forms. So oriental rugs and tea but East Asian immigrants. Maybe the crowd I moved with was very PC?
You are right, but it is pure lib PC.
Oriental is a good descriptive term.
Asian is too broad to be meaningful.
