Even from a purely political standpoint this makes no sense. None at all.

The push is coming from the GOP's corporate paymasters. They have made it quite clear, including thru a public letter, that they want amnesty and an increase in the guest worker programs. Money is the mother's milk of politics.

If "immigration reform" is so important, why is it so important to do it this year? Why not wait until next year when you can get your own bill through both Houses without having to be bullied by Hairy Reid, agreeing to their agenda, and letting them get all the political credit just in time for the elections?

It depends on what you mean by immigration reform. If the Reps were to gain control of the Senate, would they invoke the nuclear option on legislation? We had 14 Rep senators sign on to the Gang of 8 amnesty bill. What kind of bill would come out of the senate? And whatever comes out will be vetoed by Obama.

An added bonus to not doing it this year is you're not alienating your own base just before an election, threatening your own survival as a political party, your control of the House, and blowing a chance for massive victory in the Senate.

The GOPe may be counting on conservatives to hold their noses again and vote for them. They are mistaken, but they seem to be operating on different assumptions than most of us are.

We all know there aren't any adults left in the Donk Party. But aren't there at least a few in any leadership positions in the Stupid Party - or has the entire political establishment gone stark raving mad on loco weed and are intent on stampeding the entire country over the cliff along with themselves?

The Dems have effectively stampeded the Reps into believing that they must do something to gain the Hispanic vote, which will continue to grow and make the Reps the permanent minority party.

I get it.

Forget about their solemn oaths to protect and defend the Constitution, their special place in the American system of self-government, the constituents they claim to represent, the campaign promises they have made, and their moral posturing.

It's the money, stupid.

Right. I get it.

I guess P.J. O'Rourke had it right when he wrote, "Parliament of Whores", way back in 1991.
