If 56 percent of GOP primary voters could easily back Jebbie without hesitation, we remain forever doomed.
Well if we want better than second string, I suggest we start rooting hard for Sarah. Bombard her with fanmail.
Pretty much all that's left of GOP primary voters are low-information constituents. The conservatives have gone independent.
Rush: My Apology to the Independents
Excerpt:
I think there's been a fundamental shift in who the independents are. I think the independents of today are, in many cases (and maybe a majority now), former Republicans who are fed up. They're actually conservatives, former Republicans who feel disconnected from the Republican Party as it's defined by the establishment. They have simply given up the party ID. They simply registered as independents. Now, this is great for the GOPe, the Jeb people, the Karl Rove people, the consultants, because the ones left that still identify as Republicans, the low-information GOP set are gonna vote for Jeb no matter what, even if they have to hold their noses. Why? Because he's got an "R" after his name, he doesn't have a "D" after his name, and for them, that's all that matters. They don't want to be helpful to Republicans, and they don't give money anymore. Because those lines were inseparable. It used to be in something like the independents would track more closely to Democrats. I think this is something significant.
Oh, and when Jeb loses big in 2016, it'll be all the fault of the conservatives.
