I have to agree with KC_Lion. Our problem in the U. S. is spiritual. The bad politics and corruption are just symptoms of the disease of the heart. We are wasting our time, energy and money if we only fight the battle on the physical front. When someone’s heart is touched by God’s love (hopefully, through God using believers to touch that heart) the sin nature begins to lose its grip on them and “then” they see the light - he changes them from the inside out - not the other way round. “For we wrestle not with flesh and blood, but against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph. 6:12 - 22) The verses following tell us how to prepare for the battle. Sarah Palin nor anyone else will save America. I have never seen evil in our country like I see it today - and I believe worse is coming. We have forgotten our God and he has removed his hand of protection from us. I can’t help but think judgement is in store for our nation. Perhaps as it comes we will call upon him once more.
A certain proportion of evil has been permitted in.
I still believe this is a warning. It is nowhere near the chaos that could engulf America.
And it’s probably because a plurality of America is still believing Christian or Jewish.
God does not want to toss America down the tubes yet. The response, as you suggest, is up to us. It seems logical enough to call on heaven if it seems hell is biting at our heels, but we have been slow of heart and slow of mind.
And you make an excellent point, the same as mine. Let’s not fall into the paradigm of that oh, if we just had another Ronald Reagan it will all be peachy with God. No, it does take more. And it was the whole ship of fools that either elected this fool or permitted this fool to be elected, as captain.
Once that is understood, yes a groundswell of support for saner leader is perfectly good. But it’s because we want to exalt God thereby.
