One of my Facebook friends last night was discussing his drive from Daytona Beach to Houston. He said he was trying to avoid driving through New Orleans because “they aren’t as prepared for ice storms as they are for hurricanes.”
If their response to Katrina was any indication, Nawlins is gonna be TOTALLY PWNED by an ice storm...
Years ago, I lived and worked across the lake from New Orleans. A day or two before Christmas, the office had a party during the last work day. About 2/3 of the employees lived in New Orleans and crossed the causeway each day. I was amazed that they all survived the 20 some mile drive through sneaux flurries drunk. The temperature stayed below freezing for days, and then water pressure dropped to critical levels. There were so many broken pipes.
Actually..and I can`t believe I`m saying this...N.O. Did a good job with this `crisis`. Schools were shut down in advance. Roads closed as needed..I10 totally shut now. The officials did things right...shocking I know. Its still below freezing and iced over so roads are empty. There are always morons who WILL go out but they actually have this handled! I kno...cold day in hell..Feels like 15 outside...I LOVE it,wish it would last ttill May.
Sorry to disappoint, but everything very quiet and orderly here. Very few accidents. Most major bridges and elevated highways shut down. Surface roads all clear, mostly dry, with very light traffic. I’m at my office right now.
