Thank you very much, fabian!! I don’t have a smart phone, but John has a droid and Chris an i-phone and they worked right out of the box. And some others that I know use smart phones on FR. Don’t know if any of them had to do something special to make them work with FR, but they all said it works well (except for the tiny keys in some cases).
It is more the phone itself, not FR.
My smertfoan doesn’t force me to do that.

I’m curious as to which smertfoans scale the text to fit the screen and which ones take the “eff it” no scale route.

On android phone while on the webpage, hit the “settings” key [usually looks like three vertical dots in the lower right.]
Go to advanced, scroll down to the option “Auto-fit pages”, check the box, and you should be done..

If you have to scroll left and right to read FR pages, then you need to change your browser settings on your phone. I’ve never had that issue on any of my smartphones.
I’m a ridiculous geek and like to customize my Android to suit my every whim. I use the Dolphin browser on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and used it or Firefox on previous Android phones.
I sometimes access FR from my hubby’s iPhone. I never have any issues. It renders the page in a tiny font at first, but when I double-tap to zoom in, it zooms and automatically adjusts the word wrapping.
Check your browser settings and add-ons, if any, or download a good browser that you can customize. The default settings on Dolphin should work for ya also.
FYI: No trouble here with a Kindle Fire or an iPad either.
