LIVE UPDATES: Deadly Shooting at Columbia Mall in Maryland

Police responded to an active shooting at Columbia Mall in Maryland shortly after 11:00 a.m. ET. Three people are confirmed dead and the mall remains on lockdown.

UPDATE, 12:40p ET: People inside the mall are being told to wait until they are escorted out. The scene is believes to be secure.

UPDATE, 12:34p ET: Randy Brooks, owner of Edward Arthur Jewelers at Columbia Mall, told Uma Pemmaraju that he heard a couple of pops and then saw people running. He said it appeared that the shooter had a shotgun and was killed, but police have not confirmed that. Brooks said others have reportedly been taken to the hospital.

If I am not mistaken, I believe this may be the same mall where another mass shooting occurred a few years ago. In that incident, I think an off-duty cop/FBI agent shot the crazy person.

If the killer killed himself he's not a "victim" ... but I suppose the reporter would be uncomfortable calling him a "dead killer".

Do you suppose that if the killer used a knife he would be called a "stabber"?

Maybe, but witnesses were describing a long gun of some kind (unknown if rifle or shotgun). If true, the shooter didn't just throw down on a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing.

No. I got that wrong. It was a mall in Annapolis.

All 3 dead people were found in 1 store on the upper level by the local police. No shots were fired by the police. The shooter was one of those three. No identity or motive at this time. Looks like buckshot from the photos on TV.

That’s my gut feeling too..if this guy intended to kill more people he could have done it, but shoots 2 and then kills himself..my guess is that he knew the victims
