Ahhhh man, you beat me to the Howard Cosell moment...I thought he said “Jungle Monkey”...My memory has faded over the years since that happened...And even then it had made little impact on how I view the American Black citizens of this country...
Of course I was a kid back at that time...So I guess I was lucky NOT to be influenced by the racial faux paux presented on that program...

I never took it as racial...Redskins had 3 small receivers to go along with Art Monk - Alvin Garrett 5’7, Virgil Seay 5’8 and another one 5’10 with Monk around 6’3 or so.
The 3 were known as “The Smurfs” and got a lot of mileage out of it.
The ‘faux pas’ was made after Garrett had completed a broken field run ....
Think that was during the start of a ‘crowd’ in the booth and each tried to ‘out quip’ each other
