If I may also chime in where the conversation involves one of my favorite authors, I would highly recommend “The Past Through Tomorrow,” a collection he called his Future History, including some of his most intriguing and thought-provoking short stories and novellas. Many of his later novels had their genesis in stories and characters introduced here.
