Something like 80% of new HIV infections are homosexual or needle-using drug addicts. Given they are such a small percentage of the total population, even after 30+ years of HIV’s widespread introduction into North America, its still mostly a gay disease.
What you say is probably true of North America. But in places like Africa, where the disease is rampant, a great deal of contagion is heterosexual.
