Most casual drinkers just drink to relax. To catch a buzz, in other words. Or maybe it’s the great taste.
At any rate, the country can longer afford Pot Prohibition, much like it could no longer afford Alcohol Prohibition. Money talks.
We can easily afford pot prohibition. Just fine people instead of jail. If you are a user you pay $300 for the first offense and this increases for subsequent offenses. If you are a dealer you pay a $5000 fine but this rises depending on how much you possess when busted. Since marijuana is not addictive then people will quit using it rather than risk rising fines. Marijuana is for idiots in need of some education...a beer or two or wine or whiskey is the traditional intoxicant in this civilization
One of my main problems with legalizing it, is that it will be taxed. When the government and big business get money from pot, the will make the Zetas look like kindergarten. If it should be legalized, it should only be on the condition it is not taxed at all.
To the tune of 27% tax in Colorado, that's a 25% tax on Mary Jane plus 2% sales tax. (Subject to upward mobility)
..........and that's what it's all about.
