“Puffing”? Really? I thought it meant something else entirely.

I did it several mornings here near Fort Meade. Nannies never found me, I guess.

the newer technology of auto-start vehicles "Newer"?
First time I saw a car with this technology was in 1971 in Illinois. The car was from Minnesota.

Around here it is legal to warm up or just idle the engine as long as the doors are locked (requires two keys. etc).

Is it legal to do here in Florida?

The reason for such laws is usually linked with the increased threat of vehicles being stolen and some of them carry hefty fines for enticing car thieves to commit their crimes. Wait....

If the police are driving around the neighborhood looking for tickets to write, then they have too much free time on their hands.

Two of our three cars have a stick, and the auto has remote start.
I’m not too worried about either of the cars with the sticks. Most “youth” wouldn’t be able to get it out of the driveway without stalling it.

I looked up South Carolina and it looks like idling the engine applies only to commercial vehicles.

Any firsthand reports of actual tickets or fines being handed out? The article makes reference to “police ticketing unattended vehicle” but no specific citation anywhere for pre-warming. I dunno — seems a bit alarmist to me. Not arguing that there really are such nonsensical laws, but there are many such “laws” that stay on the books for years; e.g., in Kentucky it’s illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your back pocket.

-40 here the other morning. I let my pickup (which was plugged in) run for 15 minutes before I left the house. Don’t really care about some law forbidding it. My skinny butt is not sitting in a vehicle that cold.

Stupid, stupid law based on nothing but sheer control. I have always warmed up the car first in the Winter. When the kids were babies.. I didn’t want to put them into a cold car. Now... I don’t want to get into a cold car and sit till it warms up. You know how cold it was here last week, TSR. I warmed the car up at least 15 minutes in the morning.
To: Tolerance Sucks Rocks
If they think they can keep me from warming up my car when it's frozen, they can osculum my infame. Bastards.
