Back in the 50s and 60s, I’d say about 70% of boys were Scouts, mostly those who lived on farms couldn’t join. Now I suspect it will become a sanctuary for misfits who join just because it’s become a place to hang out with other misfits. I love traditions and the Boy Scouts did me a lot of good (as well as teaching me a lot of bad habits), but now I would welcome their demise. When an organization loses its way and becomes something foreign to it’s mission, it’s time for it to go.
2/3 still followed me out and resigned the next day.
The remaining camped out by our HS later that year, and us revolters loaded up with bear bait(bottles of rotted fish) and raided them throwing it on and in their tents.
Damn that was fun!
From our scouting experience three years ago I can tell you for a fact that that is exactly what is happening. My kids are jocks anyway, the whole experience with those cheap money hungry weirdos was just wrong for us.
The leadership of the BSA reflects the quality of leadership generally.
I’ve never seen a country with so few actual leaders in it. Never have I seen so many think they can act one way and expect their charges to behave in ways that are more moral and disciplined than their own.
This is going to be another legacy of the 60’s. Worst decade for the US, ever.
The Locust generation leaving its mark.
